Wawasee Tennis

Lady Warriors #1 Doubles Team Win vs. Concord

In last week’s girls tennis action, Wawasee traveled to Concord to face the defending NLC champions, who remain a top contender in the conference.  The Lady Warrior squad began the night sluggish and ended in similar fashion.  The #1 varsity doubles team of Charity Parker and Kabrea Rostochak were in the same situation, dropping their first set at love. Sparked by senior captain Charity Parker’s will and exceptional serving, the doubles team bounced back winning the second set 6-4 and the third and deciding set 6-3. Sophomore Kabrea Rostochak rebounded as well with aggressive net play to lead Wawasee to its only victory of the night.

Parker & Rostochak go to 2-0 in conference #1 doubles play this year.

As for the rest of the matches, there was little competition put forth by Wawasee.  When asked about the outcome, head coach Shane Staley commented:

I was proud of our #1 dubs team for fighting back and winning that match, but overall the team seemed almost lethargic off the bus.  It was disappointing and the team knew I wasn’t happy about the preparation.  We gave away that match before it started; I thought we could have been much more competitive on many of the courts.  In a team meeting, I had everyone sit down and discuss ways we can improve our mental pre-match preparations and a lot of good suggestions were talked about.  We simply can NOT go into matches flat and unfocused and expect to win.  It was a learning moment for many on the team. We’ll be more focused and ready to play from here on out.

Thursdays match versus Manchester was canceled due to weather and will now be made up at Manchester on Friday (April 29, 2016).
