Boys Rebound With NLC Win

The Warriors boys team hit a late season wall, losing two straight matches 0-5 against Northridge and Warsaw.  Tuesday night found them back in conference action against a much-improved Elkhart Memorial team.

Nathan Perek was the first of the night to win a match for Wawasee.  At #3 singles he dominated his opponent 6-0, 6-1.  Nate Haines was the next victory for Wawasee with a similar result of 6-1, 6-0.

With a 2-0 lead, the Warriors fell short on both doubles courts, leaving a final deciding match at #1 singles.

Dylan Staley dropped the first set in a close tiebreaker at #1 singles.  Fighting back, he won the next set 6-4 which led to a deciding third set for both another singles and team victory.  Staley pulled out the win, edging his opponent, Brandon Bailey, 6-2 in the third, giving Wawasee its first conference win this season.

In JV action, the Warriors followed suit, getting their first NLC win of the year by the score of 4-1.  In singles play, #1 Jacob Krugman, #2 Noah Wilson and #3 Josh Slabaugh were victorious.  The JV doubles team split with Jake Cowan and Brady Robinson pulling out a tough 3-set victory over Memorial 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
