Lady Warriors Return To The Court vs. Westview and Goshen

Westview (1-4 Loss, JV Victory)

It was a tale of two matches for Wawasee this week, both weather-wise and aftermath.

On Tuesday, the Lady Warriors opened their season versus Westview on a cold spring day, dropping the match 1-4.  Brianna Haessig and Molly Jones debuting as the new #2 doubles team pulled off the lone victory on the front courts for varsity.  The three set victory had Haessig and Jones dropping a first set tie-breaker at love, then rallying to win the next two sets easily 6-2, 6-2.

The JV pulled off an impressive win 5-2 with singles victories coming from Sailor Davis-York (at #2), Anah Sommers (at #3) and Stephanie Ruiz (at #4).  In doubles, the #1 duo of Valerie Haessig and Brittney Jackson swept their match 8-0 and #2 doubles Abby Morehead and Tate Cowan won in a tiebreaker.

Goshen (3-2 Win)

Thursday, the Lady Warriors open conference play in a much warmer setting, but with winds 15-20 mph blowing cross-court for most of the match.  Varsity #1 singles Kendra Doerr got off to a slow start, but steadied herself and scored her first victory at her new position of #1 singles.  Elizabeth Kleopfer followed with an impressive straight set victory over her opponent 6-0, 6-2.  Kabrea Rostochak led the charge at #1 doubles with partner Courtney Larson to secure a 3-2 victory for Wawasee, winning their match 6-0, 6-2.

The JV had a colder finish to the warmer day, dropping their match 2-5.  #3 doubles Ava Harker and Tate Cowan held their court 8-6 and Stephanie Ruiz and Casey Yankosky at #4 doubles won decisively 8-0.

The Lady Warriors varsity squad (1-1, 1-0 in conference) is scheduled to head to the Jimtown Invite Saturday against Jimtown, South Bend Adams and Wabash.  Play is scheduled to start at 9 AM.
