Lady Warriors Win Season Opener vs. Westview

Great start to the Lady Warriors season tonight with a 3-2 win vs. Westview. And one of the most amazing come-from-behind victories.

Wawasee began its night in varsity play dropping the first set on every court to Westview.

At #1 singles, Kendra Doerr lost in straight sets to Westview’s Lauren Riegsecker. The #2 doubles team of Abby Morehead and Tate Cowan also lost 4-6, 4-6.

Down 0-2 early and having dropped a set on each of the remaining courts, the Lady Warriors rallied.

#2 singles Peyton Rookstool came from behind to win in 3 sets 0-6, 6-0, 6-4. Wawasee’s #1 doubles team of Kaitlin Graber and Molly Jones rebounded from a first set 3-6 loss to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-4.

Which left Elizabeth Kleopfer at #3 singles on court. Elizabeth had dropped the first set 2-6, won the second set 6-2 and forced the 3rd set into a tiebreaker she eventually won 7-4 to clinch the win and a 7-6 third set.

The Lady Warriors JV also won 4-1. Winners included Valerie Haessig (1S), Kaitlynn Jackson (2S), Kelsey Harper (4S) and Ava Harker / Becca Smith (2D).

The Lady Warriors will be on the road Thursday to play Goshen in the first conference match of the year.
