Warriors End Regular Season With Another Nail-Biting Win

Tuesday at home against Northwood, Wawasee’s boys concluded their regular season, grinding out another hard-fought match which came down to the wire.

The Warriors quickly fell to 0-2 as both varsity doubles teams lost in straight sets, which meant is was up to singles to pull out the victory.

Nate Haines battled at #2 singles for the first victory, winning 6-3, 6-2.  The focus then shifted to court 5 where #3 singles Nathan Perek found himself down by a break in the third set.  Determined to pull the victory out, Perek rallied to get a come-from-behind victory 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

So once again center court was the main stage for #1 singles Dylan Staley who was engaged in a heated battle ending slightly before darkness claimed the courts.  Staley, who won the first set in a tiebreaker, dropped the second set only to rebound under pressure to win the third set, clinching the win for both himself and Wawasee.

The Warriors varsity ended their season 8-7, winning the last two matches in the conference, now with momentum heading into Wednesday’s NLC tournament.

The JV dropped their match 3-9, but recorded victories from Joshua Slabaugh, Brady Robinson (in both singles and doubles play) as well as Jake Cowan.
