Warriors Face Mid-Season Struggles

With only 5 returning players out of 13 on the roster, Wawasee showed a promising 3-2 record heading into the week, facing Whitko and state-ranked Concord.

Whitko 8/28/18

After a 5-0 sweep against Whitko the previous year, the Warriors showed signs of inexperience Tuesday at home vs. the Wildcats. The doubles team split after seeing a dominant victory by #1 Jacob Krugman and Grant Brooks who only allowed a single game to Whitko.  The #2 team of Clayton Firestone and Zeke Keim fell in three sets after inconsistent play throughout.

At one court apiece, it was up to the singles courts to secure a victory.  #1 Zach Leedy coasted through his match 6-2, 6-1 while #2 singles Graham Perek followed with a decisive 6-0, 6-4 win, clenching the team win.  #3 Colin Rhoades would go three sets before giving up the final singles court.

JV won their first match of the year 3-1.  Taylor Fiedeke and Holden Babb secured singles wins and Blaine Baut and Devon Kuhn won at #1 doubles.

Concord 8/30/18

Wawasee travelled to Concord on Thursday to face off against the 15th-ranked Minutemen.  It took less than an hour on most courts as the Warriors were swept 0-5 at varsity and 0-7 at JV.  Wawasee managed to only win a total of 8 games throughout 5 courts.

Jimtown / Fairfield / Westview (9/1/18)

The annual Wawasee varsity duals took place Saturday morning.  The round robin could serve as a turning point to the Warriors season (currently going in at 4-3).  But it didn’t end well.

Wawasee dropped all three matches 0-5, finishing last in the duals.

Wawasee (4-6) faces two tough conference teams this week (Goshen at home Tuesday and Northridge away on Thursday)
